Quality You Can Trust
Traditional garden design requires a deep understanding of gardening principles that have been refined over centuries. As a result, the quality of the final product reflects the skill and knowledge involved in its creation. This is why we have taken great care to ensure that our team is composed entirely of qualified garden designers. The result is a product you can trust to remain beautiful and long-lasting for many years to come.
Traditional or formal garden design is often inspired from a few generations past. However, because we live in a modern world with broader garden ideas, we can also include cutting gardens and vegetable gardens. And we can also retain plenty of useable outside space with this timeless garden theme.
Victorian & Edwardian Gardens.
Traditional and formal gardens will also borrow ideas from other garden themes, such as Victorian or Edwardian gardens. We also use softer materials, such as brick, clay pavers, self-binding gravel and textured traditional paving. And, we also use a lot of timber, such as Oak and Larch, to name a few of the materials we use.
Gardens that Reflect your Lifestyle
Traditional gardens are often also designed with a series of rooms separated by hedging, or structures, such as walls or fences. Even if your garden is not large, there is always the opportunity to include this effect using Lavender or Buxus to help define rooms within your garden.
Also, you may have a  lawn space when it is worth considering adding areas of spring bulbs. Especially around trees or corners where you can enjoy a carpet of colour from late winter to early summer.
Planting is Significantly Different
Formal and classical gardens have significantly different planting ideas, with long sweeping borders and an abundance of herbaceous perennials. And, if you are a fan, Roses are also an essential addition to traditional gardens, as are elegant trees and some elements of formal or planting.
Sweeping Planting Borders
Because formal garden design will also use symmetry with features such as walls, paths, terraces and robust architecture or sculpture. We will often use open lawn space and hedges, such as Yew, Beech or Lime, to define garden areas if the room is available.
Also, traditional gardens do not always have to use repetitive planting. We can also incorporate sweeping borders that move away from straight lines. Also, those lines do not have to be the focal point of a garden, which is often considered the mainstay of a traditional garden style.
Small Garden? Not a Problem
Even if you have a small garden, and many people do, traditional gardens can also be designed to fit almost any space. We have also expanded on these ideas by adding individual styles to each design to meet the needs of our clients. Below are just a few of the gardens we have designed and created that focus on a traditional theme.
Formal & Traditional Gardens are Costly
The cost of designing and developing your traditional or formal garden will be a significant expense because the cost of materials, installation, and plants is the primary outlay. Before starting the design process, you should always consider how much you are willing to invest and how comfortable you are with the costs.
Because we have left the European Union, and because of the pandemic, please remember the cost of raw materials continues to increase and fluctuate. Prices often rise without notice and will likely continue to do so for some time.
